HillPulse for Schools

The civics tool every
Canadian student deserves.

The civics curriculum exists in every province. The intent is there. What has been missing is a tool that connects students to what is actually happening in Parliament this week โ€” in plain language, for free, on their phone.

๐Ÿ Free for every student
๐Ÿ“‹ Non-partisan. Always.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Real bills. Real Parliament.
๐Ÿ“Š Live public sentiment data
Why HillPulse in the Classroom

The problem with civics education
is that it teaches theory, not practice.

๐Ÿ“š
Textbooks describe the past
Most civics resources were written years before students open them. HillPulse shows students bills that were introduced this week, in real Parliament, affecting real Canadians right now.
โš–๏ธ
Legal language excludes students
Government websites are built for lawyers. HillPulse translates every bill into plain English so a student with no legal background can understand it in under two minutes.
๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ
Students have no voice in the process
HillPulse lets students vote on every bill and see how their class compares to the rest of Canada. For the first time, young Canadians have a real stake in what they are learning about.
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
Provincial content is invisible
Most civics education focuses on federal Parliament. But the laws that affect housing, healthcare, and education are provincial. HillPulse covers all 10 provinces.
๐Ÿค
No cost to schools. Ever.
HillPulse is free for every Canadian student. No licensing fees. No subscription. No cost to the school board. Every student downloads the same app as every other Canadian.
๐Ÿงญ
Built to meet curriculum outcomes
The 2-week HillPulse civics unit maps directly to learning expectations in Ontario CHV2O, BC Social Studies 11, and Alberta Social Studies 10. No curriculum changes required.
In the Classroom

A real civics unit.
Built around real legislation.

HillPulse comes with a ready-to-use 2-week civics unit that any teacher can run without technical setup. Students follow a live bill from introduction to debate โ€” using the actual bill text, not a hypothetical.

No new technology to learn. No new accounts for the school. Students download HillPulse the same way they download any app.

Teacher note
A complete teacher guide, daily activity plan, and curriculum outcome mapping is available free to any Ontario, BC, or Alberta educator. Contact us to receive it.
Grade 10 Civics ยท Ontario CHV2O
The HillPulse 2-Week Unit
Day 1 to 2
Students open HillPulse and find a live bill currently before Parliament. Teacher introduces how a bill becomes law using a real bill moving through the real process right now.
Day 3 to 4
Students read the plain-language breakdown for the selected bill. What it is. Who it affects. What changes. No legal jargon.
Day 5
Each student votes: Support, Oppose, or Unsure. Class results are shown. How does this classroom compare to the rest of Canada?
Day 6 to 7
Provincial comparison. Why does Ontario lean differently than Alberta? Students investigate the reasons behind regional differences.
Day 8 to 9
Research day. Students read more sources, revisit their vote, and prepare to defend their position.
Day 10
Classroom debate. Students defend their vote using the actual bill text as evidence. Real legislation. Real arguments.
A civics class that uses a live bill in real Parliament โ€” not a hypothetical from a textbook printed three years ago.
Curriculum Alignment

Built for every Canadian
province's civics curriculum.

Every province has a civics or social studies requirement. HillPulse is designed to plug into what already exists โ€” no curriculum changes, no new courses.

Ontario
Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship (CHV2O)
Mandatory half-credit course for all Grade 10 students. 130,000 to 150,000 students per year. HillPulse aligns with the active citizenship and democratic participation outcomes.
British Columbia
Social Studies 11
Includes active citizenship, democratic participation, and media literacy components. HillPulse supports all three. BC curriculum emphasizes critical thinking about information sources. HillPulse is built for exactly that.
Alberta
Social Studies 10
Political participation and civic responsibility are core outcomes. HillPulse's non-partisan approach and provincial coverage of Alberta legislation makes it directly relevant to Alberta students.
All Other Provinces
Equivalent civic education requirements
Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, and Quebec all have civic education components in their secondary curricula. HillPulse is expanding province by province.
